Christmas Eve

The sun is trying to peek through the cloud cover this afternoon. On this last shopping day before Christmas, our weather is fairly pleasant. It’s not raining, snowing, hailing, or icing up anywhere around here. As you may note, I’m not out among the shoppers. I hope those days are gone forever.

One Christmas Eve day I remember,… click here to continue

Pre-Christmas Revery

Other than the time, about 35 years ago, when I got an ambulance ride through all the Christmas lights on Portland streets to the hospital, this year is the most low-key holiday season I’ve experienced. Realizing that, I wonder if my interest in celebrating will continue to diminish as the years pass.

Spite and Malice vs. Sugar and Spice

My lady barber, who’s Italian, is entertaining to say the least. She complains to me about other customers. I wonder what she says about me to them. Today, we were talking about cooking and I told her I really don’t cook much anymore. Most of the time, I just heat food. She said she used to like to cook,… click here to continue

Rainy Day Ruminations

Today I managed to get the travel journal of our California trip posted to the travel section of the website. It’s been so long since I did one of those, I’d forgotten how. Our weather hasn’t helped, nor has the fact that I don’t have sense enough to lie down and be sick since… click here to continue

A Small Rant

A few days ago, I mentioned a pet peeve I might rant about. That is the practice of many television programs showing an audience clapping, shouting, stomping and whistling. It is certainly not something that I enjoy listening to. To add insult to injury, when I’ve attended a few of these shows, I learned that this audience participation is not… click here to continue

A White Sunday Before Christmas

The view from our front window is like a Christmas card tonight. We are having bitter, windy cold. The snow started very quickly, but on a Sunday afternoon, didn’t cause as much damage as it might have on a weekday. Tomorrow morning’s commute may be a nightmare, however. Freezing rain is predicted overnight. We’ll hope the forecasters are wrong… click here to continue
