Beating the Heat

We managed to survive a couple days of unusual heat for this area that culminated in a violent electrical storm Sunday evening. Today’s high was at least ten or fifteen degrees less than Saturday’s scorcher.

Swimming helped me cool off each day and we ate out a couple of times to stay out of the kitchen.

Yesterday afternoon I was… click here to continue

Thanks to my California Childhood

For the first twelve years of my life, we lived in the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys in California. With no air conditioning in those days and poorly insulated houses, I learned about keeping a house cool. Fortunately, our apartment is brick and has storm windows. The bedrooms also have insulated draperies. We also have some trees that help shade… click here to continue

Food Fallacies

I usually dread going… click here to continue

If I can’t remember exact titles or associate them with the incidents I recall, they are hiding, incognito, in corners of my computer.

This problem has previously surfaced… click here to continue

Warm Weather at Last

We were shocked to have an afternoon high of 87 degrees today. It was a bit muggy, but not uncomfortably hot. Our outdoor pools are still not open and the predicted lows for the nights this coming week are all in the 50’s. Tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 78. I have suspected for several years that our seasons are… click here to continue

Weird Weather

Much of the world is experiencing weird weather. Global warming, or weather cycles, or whatever, is baking some parts of this country, flooding others, and turning the calendar through the seasons, a day at a time, in the Pacific Northwest.

We had two or three hot days in May and, since then, the weather switches back and forth… click here to continue
