Father’s Day Feelings

My father has been gone for twenty-three years now and I am sad to reflect that, on this Father’s Day, neither of my children has a living father to celebrate with.

We had brunch with all of Floyd’s children and grandchildren who live in this area, and he talked by phone with his two out-of-town sons. He… click here to continue

The Price of Corn and Other Matters

Yesterday I read that the price of corn has nearly doubled in the last year. With the floods now occurring in Iowa, it can only go higher. Dare we hope that the manufacturers of food products will stop putting corn syrup in almost everything they make, from spaghetti sauce to soup or bread or any of dozens of other non-dessert… click here to continue

A couple of days ago I was looking for a memoir story I remembered writing, but didn’t find anywhere on this computer. So I went… click here to continue

The Other Eye

Cataract surgery for my left eye is scheduled for late July. The pre and post-operative appointments have also been set up. The only thing I don’t know and won’t know until the last minute is the actual time of the surgery.

The last time I was scheduled for late morning, as I remember, and there was a fairly long… click here to continue

More Creative Writing

After I finished yesterday’s article, I came across another variation of a sugar pseudonym: “organic evaporated cane crystals.” Perhaps that’s what’s left after you extract “organic evaporated cane juice,” who knows?

Years ago, when I was a child, our family lived near a sugar beet factory in Woodland, California. My nostrils have a vivid memory of the smell of decaying… click here to continue
