Reading and Writing

Seems like I’ve been doing a lot more reading than writing recently. I didn’t intend to let the trauma of passing into another decade slow me down, but something has.

This morning I had a great swim and workout. There were just three of us in the pool so each of us could do her own thing,… click here to continue

Erratic Blood Pressure

After having my blood pressure medicine reduced by one-half, the obnoxious side effects I’d been putting up with for ages subsided. My blood pressure has become somewhat erratic, but leans more to the low numbers than the high. My energy level, however, is higher. I’m also sleeping better at night. My doctor’s appointment on Monday should answer most of… click here to continue

Shave and a Haircut…

This morning an old expression, which I remembered as “Shave and a haircut, six bits,” popped into my head. I wondered how “bits” became representative of a quarter dollar, twenty-five cents. I went to my word origin books and couldn’t find that information there. I was briefly sidetracked by a long explanation of “X-ers” or “twenty-somethings” that was quite… click here to continue

Early Mother’s Day

Floyd made one call to the number in the assembly instructions to verify that he was putting it together correctly and finished the job Friday night.

Today… click here to continue

Aha Days

Ever since I’ve had this new computer, and I don’t even want to remember how long that is, I’ve had trouble with the sound volume. Some videos can’t be heard well even if I crank up the volume on the screen to 100. This… click here to continue

Adapting to My Age

After my fabulous 80th birthday party, I’m attempting to get used to the idea that I’ve actually lived that long. It’s a bit of a shock. At 60, recovering from cancer surgery, I wondered if I’d make it to 70. Life has been kind to me the last twenty years. I’ve been able to retire gradually and live comfortably.… click here to continue

Dreary Monday

A rainy day—good to stay inside and read and organize my desks. I ventured out for one short trip to the drugstore and then hung around home, staying dry.

Weird things are happening to this old body. Saturday was a high-energy day, followed by two days of dragging myself around. I managed to get to the pool… click here to continue
