OK, OK, I Give Up

I’ve decided that, as soon as room air conditioners are available at competitive prices again, we need at least one. I’m not ready to go through another day like yesterday, or even worse, a night like last night, without cooler air. The fan that’s blowing on me tonight is doing the job—but last night was a different matter. I… click here to continue

We’re Havin’ a Heat Wave

This week is destined to be record breaking in these parts for high temperatures and for the highest low temperatures. In Tigard (just a few miles from us) the high today was 110 degrees—unheard of in the past. I think we were somewhere in the range of 105 to 107 on our front porch. I drove to a nearby clinic… click here to continue

Red Letter Day

For the last two months we’ve watched our potted tomato plant on the deck grow taller and sprout dozens of little yellow blossoms. I’ve poured gallons of water on it and a little Miracle Gro, but we’ve had no sign of tomatoes. This morning when I watered—Eureka—we have a one-inch very green tomato. Well, it’s a start. With the hot… click here to continue

Vagaries of Old Age

Yesterday was a high-energy day—at least as high as it gets these days. My blood pressure dropped fairly low a couple of times and left me weak and light-headed.… click here to continue

Feel Good Report

It seems to me I’ve laughed and smiled more in the last two days than in any recent two-day period. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend of approximately twenty years (we can’t remember for sure how many). We both formerly lived in Vancouver, Washington. She lives in Salem now, but we stay in touch. Our visit was quite enjoyable.… click here to continue

Another Question

Yesterday I saw an article in the paper about the 25-year old man who founded Facebook and who is now a billionaire. Although I have joined Facebook, I know very little about it. It occurred to me to wonder how it generates income since, as far as I can see, getting on it and using it to communicate with… click here to continue

One of the Many Things I Wonder About

I totally fail to understand these older, even elderly, women who want to have babies. There should be a law requiring a psychiatric evaluation before fertility clinics are allowed to implant anyone over age fifty. Just recently, a woman in her sixties died leaving two-year old twins. With no male father figure in the picture, the babies are now… click here to continue
