Ready—Not Ready

I’m very ready for Writing class to start tomorrow. I need the jumpstart to get back at the memoir stories. I’ve already begun editing a few of the many stories that are drafted and stashed in my computer. The Wednesday class meets in the morning at 9:00 a.m., not my favorite choice, but I have T.O.P.S. on Thursday morning, so… click here to continue

Evolving Language

Having been a reader for 75 of my 80 years, and a talker for even longer, I’ve had the opportunity to notice a lot of changes in language. Some of those changes have even found their way into my verses. I’m sure I’ve not noticed exactly when each of the many new usages slipped into popular conversations.

She reported the notice warned that a person who had been using the pool was recently diagnosed with MRSA, the flesh-eating disease. We had all… click here to continue

The couple was convicted of child pornography and serious penalties resulted including requiring them to register as sex offenders. Once again Wal-Mart is endearing themselves to the public—not. The resulting furor will be interesting… click here to continue

Pool Talk

A few days ago, in the pool, a regular swimmer was there with two guests from England—her male cousin and a woman friend. While we were all paddling around the pool, I overheard a conversation among the three of them. Her friend asked why her husband had not come along with them. She said it was because he didn’t know… click here to continue

Guilt Assuaged

From time to time since I moved from Vancouver to Tigard I’ve felt pangs of guilt for not jumping into volunteering as I had when I lived there. But something I learned today will help clear that up for me.

When I joined T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) sixteen months ago, it was for purely selfish reasons. I wanted… click here to continue
