The Other Eye

Cataract surgery for my left eye is scheduled for late July. The pre and post-operative appointments have also been set up. The only thing I don’t know and won’t know until the last minute is the actual time of the surgery.

The last time I was scheduled for late morning, as I remember, and there was a fairly… click here to continue

More Creative Writing

After I finished yesterday’s article, I came across another variation of a sugar pseudonym: “organic evaporated cane crystals.” Perhaps that’s what’s left after you extract “organic evaporated cane juice,” who knows?

Years ago, when I was a child, our family lived near a sugar beet factory in Woodland, California. My nostrils have a vivid memory of the smell… click here to continue

Creative Writing--Madison Avenue Style

This morning I read the label on the carton of soy milk that I use on my cereal. I’m angry and weary of bringing home new merchandise, usually made in China or some other far off land, and having some defect appear the minute it comes out of the box. Yes, it will usually be replaced, but I have to haul it back to where I bought it, pack it in and haul the replacement home. Then I… click here to continue

Thought for the Day

“Writing is no trouble: you just jot down
ideas as they occur to you. The jotting is simplicity
itself - it is the occurring which is difficult.”

~ Stephen Leacock

Sometimes the jotting becomes a problem if you’re in the shower or walking without writing utensils. Unfortunately, that’s often when the… click here to continue

Hardball Season

Any woman who throws her hat in the political ring in this country has to be a tough cookie. And tough cookies play hardball. Unfortunately, it gets thrown back to them in spades.

Since the days when women adulterers were stoned, females have traditionally been targets whenever they deign to step into formerly male-dominated territory. Thus I fear… click here to continue
