Aloha

Tomorrow morning we fly to San Diego to board a cruise ship and cross the water to Hawaii. We will meet my sister and brother-in-law in San Diego for a short visit, stay over night and get to the pier Thursday afternoon. It’s been a busy week getting ready for the trip. Every year my organization skills deteriorate. However, tonight I’m reasonably sure everything we need, and then some, is packed and ready to go.

In years past, I’ve tried to avoid checking any luggage, but dragging it around, even on wheels is, let’s face it, a drag. So the two large bags will be checked and the small ones, including my laptop, we’ll carry on.

Some time back, I returned from a cruise around Europe, across the Atlantic. Now I’ll get to cross part of the Pacific. When I was a kid reading about ocean crossings, with pictures of rich folks bundled in blankets and stretched out in deck chairs, I thought it would be great fun. I also thought I’d never get to find out. But I did, and it is.

Two weeks of someone else making the beds, cooking the meals, etc. is really easy to take. It’s just long enough to spoil me thoroughly, so I’ll have a hard time getting back into my routine, but I’m sure I’ll survive it.

The question is, can I survive all those wonderful meals without gaining weight?

We shall see.
