April and Poetry

April is National Poetry Month and, every year, it seems to slip by before I get organized to participate in any of the activities. This year I got a head start by going to a couple of William Stafford celebrations during his birthday month earlier in the year.

Last weekend I joined several other poets for an evening of poetry and discussion that I already mentioned here.

This coming Saturday I’m registered for an all-day poetry workshop in North Portland and I’m really looking forward to the experience. I may even get to a few more events before the month is over.

I hope all this poetry activity jumpstarts my muse again. Poetry took a back seat for the two years or so that I worked on my non-fiction book, Find Romance in Later Life. Recently I’ve been working on memoir stories and my poetry writing has slowed to a halt once again.

Meanwhile, tomorrow I’ll try to get some more poems entered in to contests.
