Autumn Begins

Every once in a while a computer program does something that helps make me feel less stupid in comparison. Today, when I typed October in, I assumed the program would know it’s October 1st, because I haven’t typed in that month before. But no, I had to type in the 1 and the 2011. For some reason, this program only fills in the date automatically occasionally. It does always furnish my last name when I type in the first name.

When autumn begins with a grey day such as this one, we don’t even have the colorful leaves on the trees yet to cheer us. True, there are still a few bright flowers in yards we pass by. I finally turned the heat on in this room and the bathroom to be comfortable without bundling up.

The rumors around the swimming pool now inform me that these apartments have been sold. They will not be converted to condos. That’s good—that tells me the new owners are not stupid. A two-bedroom, two-bath condo in this complex recently sold for $42,000. Obviously, no one will get rich on condos in this location. Now the rumors can’t decide the nationality of the new owners—maybe Arab, maybe Russian, who knows? I wonder how much of this country we still own.

Whoever the new owners are, I can hope they’ll do a little more landscaping and better interior maintenance than the previous organization. Whatever happens, we’ll be seeing new faces. At least my rent is protected for almost another year by a recent lease renewal.
And life goes on.
