Bowled Over

Over the years, at different times in my life, I bowled in several different leagues; one in Mountlake Terrace, Washington in the 1950’s and another that I remember was the Portland Servetus Singles Club league in the 1960’s or 1970’s, I’m not sure. I learned to bowl at the University of Washington in 1947 for a physical education credit. In that class, we had to take turns setting pins, which were set by hand in those days. It was always a fun sort of exercise for me, but I developed bursitis in my right shoulder and had to give it up years ago.

This morning I bowled three lines on our new Nintendo Wii and found it considerably easier to score than the actual game had been. In fact, I bowled 157 with my left hand and 200 with my right. I can definitely see that these types of games could easily be addictive. My all-time high game in league bowling was 175 and my average was considerably lower.

The best part about it is that I can exercise both arms. Maybe I can even teach myself to do lunges as I release the button on the remote to shoot the ball. I hope I can get similar exercise playing tennis or golf; I haven’t tried those games yet. Anyway, I have a fun exercise program for the winter days when we’re snowed in, or when I can’t talk myself into going to the pool. I understand there is also a Fitness program available to use on the Wii that would be even better. It’s highly recommended by one of my nieces.

And now, back to the mundane.
