Brain Maintenance

Today I’m speculating about the apparent correlation between physical deterioration and stimulation of the brain. My mind seems to constantly be working on how to save steps when my arthritic foot pain is at its worst. So, as I move from room to room, I load myself with things that need to be moved from here to there and try to avoid doubling back when dumping wastebaskets or doing laundry, etc. That seems to be an automatic brain exercise.

I am constantly looking for other ways to keep my brain/mind alive and well. Working the daily Jumble puzzle in the newspaper is one. The free rice website, http://www.freerice.com is another, which also adds to my vocabulary. Lately I’ve been rearranging my office. Moving things around that I use often, makes me stop and think before reaching for a stapler or paper clip, a pencil, pen or postage stamps.

Of course, these days I, and the rest of this country, struggle with trying to decide whether or not politicians and leaders are saying anything meaningful and/or possibly true. A blogger, whose work I read, opined this morning that the problem with being lied to all the time, is that when we’re told a truth, we may not recognize it.

Last, but not least, I research nutritional recommendations for food, and/or supplements that will treat my body and brain kindly and allow them to age more slowly. My vigorous exercise program is helping me drop a few pounds, but I can’t tell what, if anything, it’s doing for my brain.
