Computer ConspiracyWhy is that when you’re feeling even the slightest bit under par, the computer knows and chooses that time to add to your misery? Both my desktop and my laptop are acting up simultaneously. This desktop is less obstreperous than the laptop, which is rejecting my new printer combination, after using it for about a week. Not only is it refusing to print, but it shuts itself down periodically with dire warnings of possible damage unless the “new hardware” is uninstalled and reinstalled correctly. I’ve tried that a couple of times unsuccessfully. Until I’m feeling better, I refuse to deal with it. My unsuspecting son and son-in-law will be here next Sunday and maybe can give me a hand figuring out what the problem is. Honestly, I invited them before I began having computer troubles, but the timing is good. Since I’ve been spending a lot of time stretched out on a heating pad, I’ve watched The Biggest Loser and The Bachelor’s latest episodes. Last night’s finale of The Bachelor was not only a surprise and disappointment, but the last straw for me. The whole concept is so artificial; it’s actually unrealistic to expect to build a lasting relationship. It has to be a great experience to participate in all those unusual activities and “dream” dates, but the letdown for those who last the longest, must be awful. In contrast, The Biggest Loser is inspirational and, if it motivates anyone to improve their habits, then it is definitely worth their efforts.
With the dearth of good television, we are lucky to have access to a lot of movies. Granted, some of those are mediocre at best, but once in a while, a really good one turns up. And, of course, books are welcome entertainment. Even when a book moves slowly and fails to intrigue me, I may continue to read to see what I can learn. Sometimes I will see where the writer went wrong and hope that will help improve my writing.
