Conversation with a Computerized TreadmillFor the last few days, I’ve been talking to a treadmill. It’s a smart piece of equipment that calculates all sorts of things, such as miles per hour, distance, elapsed time, calories burned, heart rate, etc. Today is the first day I was able to persuade it to share my heart rate with me. Of course, I had to enter my weight and my age before the darned thing would even start. No wonder more people don’t exercise. I was told repeatedly that this hunk of metal was “measuring heart rate.” For some reason, today it finally coughed up the information. I’ll be so happy to get back to swimming. The water just sits there and does nothing other than flop a few waves around now and then. I’ll be ecstatic to get back in the hot tub spa. My joints are screaming for its comfort.
After searching the American Dietetic Association’s website for several days without success, I finally Googled Protein Grams per Serving, or some such thing, and found a chart that gives me all the information I need to keep track of protein consumption. Since I’ve been advised to reduce protein and reduce weight, I need to learn some sort of magic act. I never was good at juggling or sleight of hand and it’s late in life to start learning. My hope is that increasing exercise time will do the trick
