Crickets are Calling

A few nights ago when I opened the bedroom window, I heard what sounded like crickets. I’d never heard them here before, so thought I must be mistaken. But the next morning when I closed the window, a cricket was clinging to the outside of a screen. I don’t know how many crickets it takes to make up a chorus the size of what I hear at night, but it’s pretty neat. I haven’t been serenaded like that since I lived in a manufactured home in Vancouver across from a bog full of frogs.

Considering everything that’s going on in the world around us, it’s a pretty peaceful feeling to hear crickets just keeping on, doing their thing.

The Salvation Army finally picked up the guest room bed this morning and our housekeeper came this afternoon, so our place is looking somewhat spiffed up. I have plans to make the spare room/office look a little better by hanging a curtain in front of storage shelves that are a bit cluttered. I’m already feeling less surrounded and I’m still culling and stacking up stuff to haul away.

After shopping this morning and swimming this afternoon, I’m looking forward to being lulled to sleep by our visiting crickets.
