Disappointing Open House

Our T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter went to a great deal of trouble to plan an open house to possibly attract new members. We sent press releases to the local papers, posted notices in numerous locations around King City and planned decorations and refreshments (beverages only). Not one person showed up.

It’s not that we have a shortage of chubbies in this neighborhood—I saw two on my one-mile drive home from the meeting who could profit from dropping some weight. I can only guess that, because we are all senior citizens, many of us don’t like to get out and socialize, or maybe those who are overweight hate the thought of stepping on the scales.

I have found my membership in the group to be advantageous, not only to my appearance, but to my health. The friendship and support, including sharing information about healthful food, exercise and lifestyle, are very valuable to me. I’m sorry that we aren’t given the opportunity to share with more people who could benefit so much from what we have to offer.
