Diversion ExcursionFriday afternoon I drove to the coast, specifically to Wheeler, Oregon on Nehalem Bay, where I spent the night. Saturday morning I went to Manzanita for a writers’ workshop. The presenter was the same woman who held the workshop I went to in June. The format was pretty much the same also, but the four other participants were all different women. There were many ideas for creating life stories and a few handouts with more information, including a list of reference books compiled by the workshop leader. As I looked around the horseshoe shaped table arrangement at the other gals, including the instructor, I noticed no beauty shop hairdos or heavily made-up faces. We writers let our work speak for us, not our faces. The older women favor short, simple hairstyles. I’ve noticed before that even younger women writers have simple hairdos, even if their hair is long. With such a small group, we had a lot of interaction and discussion, along with intervals of writing and listening to short lecture information, and readings. Overall, these types of activities rejuvenate my writing and help energize me to keep the old body going. I am still tired, however, although I’ve done a lot of sleeping since I got back home. I managed to drag myself to the pool this afternoon to swim in unusually cool water, which made the hot tub feel even better than usual. Since I took my laptop along, I have all my notes and bits of writing saved and can move what I want to keep onto this computer with a CD or DVD. Having the laptop worked really well for me, saving my crooked, painful fingers from having to grip a pen. I did my unpacking and laundry today so I can dig into the writing tomorrow. |
