Does Anyone Else Wonder

Our census questionnaire arrived this afternoon. The instructions are to complete and return it today. However, it asks who resides here on April 1, 2010. That date has not yet arrived. We are elderly. If one of us disappears before April 1st, it won’t be accurate. If a household occupant elsewhere is eight and a half months pregnant, there could be another resident in that dwelling by April 1st.

In addition, some of us at a luncheon today in our clubhouse wondered why we were sent a letter advising us that we would be receiving the census form and what all those notices cost. There’s been a lot of television, internet, newspaper, etc. publicity, so we can’t help but question the need for such an announcement.

I won’t even start trying to analyze what’s happening in Congress. Has this country ever been in such a mess? Well, with the possible exception of the Civil War, that is. I don’t imagine there were approval ratings polls in those days to compare with the present ones that are definitely dismal. We need more leaders in Congress.
