Every CloudYesterday my cable company came and installed equipment to facilitate conversion of our two television sets to digital broadcasting. After the technician left, I discovered my internet connection had been disabled. It was too late in the day to catch the fellow, so they initiated a work order to get someone out here today to fix it. The very personable young man who came out sorted through a jumble of wires and reconnected my modem, adding a splitter for the television and internet connections. He moved the wires that connect the various computer equipment into an invisible corner and now I can at least follow the cables/wires that connect to the television set and furnish cable for internet service. If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m a word processor, not a computer techie, so I need all the help I can get and I appreciate it. In addition to the service call, the cable company telephoned to advise me that they were giving me a free three-month upgrade to speedier internet service for “your inconvenience.” I’m sure it’s a two-edged sword to get me addicted to the higher speed so I’ll be willing to pay extra for it on the fourth month and thereafter. I need to remember to check that out. “There is no free lunch,” but most “clouds have a silver lining,” of sorts. |
