Feel Good ReportIt seems to me I’ve laughed and smiled more in the last two days than in any recent two-day period. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend of approximately twenty years (we can’t remember for sure how many). We both formerly lived in Vancouver, Washington. She lives in Salem now, but we stay in touch. Our visit was quite enjoyable. The food service was slow where we had chosen to eat which suited us perfectly. We had more time to talk. While we were chatting, I glanced toward the cash register and saw a man in a tee shirt with lettering on the back. The message was, “I have the right to remain silent, but not the ability.” That gave us a good laugh. This morning one of my favorite comic strips gave me a good giggle. Laughing, and even chuckling always makes me feel good and I’ve heard that it’s healthy. Later today, I watched Meredith Vieira’s interview with Susan Boyle. Listening to her story, I couldn’t help but smile. She has to be the poster girl for plain, plump women everywhere. With all the hate and madness in the world today, the unbelievable attention this talented lady is receiving is heart-warming. In the pool this afternoon I swam with a talkative friend who often gets us into weird conversations. Today we talked about funerals and memorial services and began laughing about how we get onto strange subjects. We both agreed we don’t want funerals—she said she told her kids they would be embarrassed because no one would come. We favor an Irish wake or celebration of life remembrance where people laugh, not cry. I guess when we live in a senior community where there are more deaths than in the average neighborhood, and we are also losing friends and relatives who are older, it isn’t strange to be thinking about death and funerals. And we might as well enjoy any slight humor connected with that subject. 0 Comment(s) about this entry. | Permalink |
