GeographyGoogle Analytics is teaching me geography. Although I’ve traveled to many foreign countries, I’m still not very good at finding locations on a map or globe. When I look at the statistics that tell me who is visiting my website and where they are from, the accompanying map helps me locate them. I don’t recall ever hearing of Senegal before, but found it on the map of Africa. Hearing from Africa will be no surprise. Many scammer/spammer offers seem to originate there. I’ve received a number of those in the past, promising me I can be rich if I just send a certain number of dollars to my ersatz benefactor. At any rate, it’s fun to know that total strangers in faraway, sometimes exotic places, click on my website and maybe even read my blog. I just need to be very alert when a few of them come up with clever scams. After many years of observing from the sidelines and reporting on the Iditarod dog sled race, Floyd’s nephew Joe Runyan, will be in the race again this year. He is assisting a woman who is, I believe, blind. Her former assistant was injured recently and unable to help her, so Joe is stepping in. He’ll be stepping lively for a middle-aged guy, but he appears to be very fit. It will be fun for us to observe on line. According to an article I found on the web, he has been training sled dogs and keeping track (pun intended) of happenings in that elite group of competitors who follow the Iditarod trail. Alaska geography is not as foreign to me as other parts of the world. My daughter lived in Nome for a year and a half about thirty-five years ago, but I didn’t get a chance to visit her there. However, several years ago, I took the Inland Passage cruise and, on that trip, rode the Yukon Railroad. The scenery in Alaska is breathtaking. I can understand why people fall in love with that part of our country.
When I was young, I never imagined I’d see all the parts of the world I’ve been privileged to visit. I don’t know how much more traveling I’ll be able to do, but it appears that, after my upcoming cataract surgery, I’ll see it all much better.
