Gin Soaked Raisins--Ugh!

From time to time, I’ve read about soaking white raisins in gin and eating a few each day as a remedy for arthritis. I never got around to trying it until this week. They taste awful! I’ll give it a few weeks and, if nothing happens, I guess I’ll have to just drink the gin and get someone else to eat the raisins.

A former ladyfriend of my son’s called me tonight, feeling guilty because she hadnt sent a Christmas card. Anyway, we had a long chat and caught up on several years’ activities. She and I had become friends over the years that she went with my son and she moved out of this area several years ago to look after her aging parents.

Our writing critique group met today and I took several poems. One of them inspired a gal to say, “I wouldn?t change a single word.” Then she added, “but Dale probably would.” Dale hastily disagreed. Such approval rarely happens, but it’s fun when it does. I also got some help with several poems that were giving me trouble.

I left that meeting early to attend a pain management seminar at Kaiser in Portland. The overview promises a number of options for reducing or learning to ignore chronic pain. All are interesting enough to try. Since I abhor the thought of becoming a pain pill junkie, I’m willing to try most anything else. (See gin-soaked raisins above).

It’s too late to take a nap and I’m having a hard time staying awake to watch Boston Legal at 10:00 p.m. Now that Law and Order and CSI are all over the map, Boston Legal is my new favorite. I do wish they wouldn’t smoke cigars--such a bad influence on kids, but the dialogue is so good I can forgive them most anything.
