Giving

It’s always heartwarming to see how people all over the world respond to desperate need after a disaster. Even in a recession, fundraisers are able to persuade donors to give huge amounts of money.

Ongoing needs, hungry and/or abused children, and homeless families get less attention and, thus less charity. It’s too bad we can’t provide sufficient services to assure that all foster children are protected and homeless families have food and a warm place to sleep.

We all need to be aware of how hard food banks are being hit by the hungry and do the best we can to help. Those of us who are always fighting weight should be especially conscious of others who can’t get enough to eat. It’s not difficult to pick up a few extra grocery items and drop them in a food barrel.

Now I’ll get off the soapbox and report on my lazy day—five hours of watching figure skating—three this afternoon and two this evening. But I did get to the pool before that and do my exercises for the day. I had to have a short nap between the two session of skating—watching all that hard work is exhausting.
