Guinea Pig VolunteerYesterday afternoon I went to the first meeting of a group of volunteers for a Kaiser health study. Those who qualify, having already met some prerequisites, and having lost ten pounds during the first six months of the study, will spend another year involved in the research. Most of the first year, we will meet weekly. After the first six months, we will be divided by a computer into two groups; one group will participate in a social support system for weight loss maintenance, the other will learn an acupressure system that may facilitate maintenance. At the end of a year, those still in the program will be evaluated over a six-month period to determine which method was more successful. I decided to sign up for this because the acupressure sounds fascinating and the prospect of possibly being selected to learn it may motivate me to lose at least ten pounds in six months. Of course, I may not be selected for the acupressure group, but I will have an opportunity to learn about it when the study is over, if it turns out to be successful. So far, I have lost six pounds in four months while attending TOPS. I will continue with TOPS during the study and hope that the combination will keep me motivated to lose the additional weight I’ve set for my goal. Meanwhile I’ll continue my vigorous swim/exercise program and dream of having a waistline again sometime before I leave this earth.
If I can learn how to post pictures on this blog, I’ll do before and after shots.
