Holiday Trepidation

I’m looking forward to two really fun days this week. Thursday we’ll have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with four of Floyd’s five children and their families. Sunday, my two children, their spouses and my cousin and his wife will join us here for a non-turkey dinner. I know we’ll have a great time.

My only concern is that this year it seems a little harder for me to maintain my weight loss, even before the holidays, than it was last year. Another member of the Kaiser study and I challenged each other to lose another five pounds. I’m not doing very well at that.

It’s always tempting to offer excuses. Our lunch group Monday had a discussion about the pressures on the oldest child in a family. Three of the five of us fit that description. Growing up having to be a good example for years did get somewhat tiresome. Now I have to be a good example to my peers in T.O.P.S. So I guess I’ll have to give myself a pep talk.

Maybe I can make Thanksgiving a time to rededicate myself to taking better care of myself.
