Hula, Hula, HulaLast night my daughter-in-law, Carrie, called to tell me that Kurt would be playing drums for a hula concert this afternoon. She planned to be there and they thought I would enjoy it. Kurt said he’d get me a ticket, if I wanted to come. The concert was at the Performing Arts Theater at Portland Community College Sylvania Campus. After mopping floors in the morning, I headed for the college. I allowed myself time to get lost and I did miss the last turn on the first go-round. But I still arrived nearly an hour early. Kurt was talking to Carrie on the phone when I found him. She had stayed home because their big dog was in the hospital for treatment after vomiting blood. The vets ran tests, but I haven’t heard the results yet. The hula program was long, but delightful. A large troupe of dancers changed costumes and positions and gave the impression of a cast of thousands. A “Don Ho” type singer, who also M.C.’d and danced, is extremely talented and moves his voice around to render the Hawaiian songs expertly. He also cleverly had the audience stand a couple of times and move around a bit, since there was no intermission. Since the band was behind the performers, Kurt saw the show from the back, but thought it was good. After I got back home, I had a light supper and a good swim. I met a gal in the pool who wants to buy my book, so I gave her my phone number and website address. I sold a copy yesterday to a man I met, also. Because some of the information in the book is now slightly out of date, I’m selling them for less than my cost, but the copies I have were paid for some time ago and it’s better to get something for them than to have them collecting dust.
No writing was done today, except this blog, but I feel that I accomplished a little something and enjoyed several hours of entertainment, as well.
