If I Make It Through SeptemberI know the song goes, “If I make it through December,” but I have so many medical/dental appointments in September, that I changed the lyrics. I just hope to get this old body patched up to operate a few more years. I have too much to do to wear out now. I went to the dentist this afternoon, who didn’t hurt me nearly as bad as his cashier did. If it costs $1400 for a crown, what does an implant cost? I really don’t want to know. Fortunately, I have some dental coverage, so I only had to pay slightly over half of that. However, there’s a hefty premium for that medical/dental supplemental insurance every month. I’m grateful my income covers it. Having an old crown break off has used up all my dental benefits for this year. So I need to chew carefully until January, at least. Here’s hoping we’ll have lots of sunny days in September so I can bake myself. It would be good to have some in October, also, to make up for lost time in what should have been summer. The Monday lunch group meets, except on very warm days, in a café in a Fred Meyer store. On hot days in summer we meet in Laurelhurst Park. Both venues offer excellent people watching. We’ve noted in the café more than one person stuffing thousands of calories down. One young man empties a couple of tubs of ice cream, among other things. Yesterday I noticed an older (sixtyish, maybe) fellow working on his computer. He was stuffing food in the entire hour plus that we were there, including potato chips, a tub of ice cream and I lost track of the rest. He was still eating when we left. Among the rest of the lunch timers, it’s probably about fifty-fifty between healthy lunches and high calorie junk-type food. The hairstyles and colors and costumes are pretty interesting, also. Since all of our group are working on maintaining weight losses, we’re probably more conscious of others’ eating habits.
