Madison Avenue Madness

Over the years of hearing and watching radio and television commercials apparently aimed at second grade level, I learned to automatically tune them out. When remote controls became available, I wore out the mute buttons.

Recently, I’ve noticed some really clever ads. I don’t know if they were inspired by sports events such as Super Bowl or big money for other types of entertainment. This morning there’s a hilarious video on Facebook of a tequila commercial that spoofs the pharmaceutical ads. Here’s a short quote to give you an idea of the content:

“However, women who wouldn’t mind nursing or
becoming pregnant are encouraged to try it.”

Also, this week I’ve observed an online controversy over plus size lingerie television ads. Apparently a network deems it indecent to show naturally grown cleavage. The transplant types (implants) are everywhere and seem to be okay with the networks. Why is it obscene to grow your own? The problem of obesity is in the spotlight, so why can’t purveyors of lingerie advertise to that expanding market?

The foibles of our “civilization” never cease to amaze me.
