Modern MarketingFor quite a few years now, I’ve done most of my clothes shopping from catalogs or on line. Walking through malls is too hard on my feet. I got along well when my weight was stable, but now that I’ve lost thirty pounds, it’s a little tricky. The other problem—that I no longer wear high heels and most pants are cut long enough to wear with four-inch heels—means that I often have to return ill fitting garments at my own expense. This week I received a pair of slacks at least four inches too long in a clingy knit fabric that I dislike. I had paid so little for the pair that I decided to donate them to a thrift shop rather than pay to send them back. In the same shipment, a chenille bathrobe arrived. It’s a little large, but that means both the sleeve and hem lengths are good. However, I washed it before wearing and followed the laundry instructions carefully. I wash most things I buy before wearing them, even if they are made in countries I’ve been to. Most are not. When I opened the dryer to remove the new robe, a huge pile of fuzz overflowed the lint trap. The garment immediately began shedding more lint with every touch. When I put it on in the bathroom, lavender fuzz covered the bath mat. I had to shake the mat out and wash it. The robe is still dropping lint. I plan to wash it once more and then if it doesn’t quit shedding, I’ll send it back. That would be too bad, because it’s comfortable and I like it. But I’ve never experienced anything quite like watching clothing begin to disintegrate with the first washing. Since early this week I’ve been fighting some sort of stomach malady. Yesterday I thought I was getting well and I cooked and ate a good dinner. Today I was much worse and had no appetite. I did manage to get outdoors in the lovely sunshine for a short while. Tomorrow should be better, I hope. 0 Comment(s) about this entry. | Permalink |
