Monday Morning Meeting

Any Monday that starts with a meeting can’t be good. Add heavy rainfall and you have the making of a dismal day. The only good part is that the meeting was next door, so I put up my new transparent plastic umbrella and walked over to the Clubhouse. When I moved to King City, I decided to rent, to eliminate as much maintenance as possible.

However, in a senior community such as this, with a civic association, even renters must participate in necessary decisions. The association board presented a proposal for changes to annual fees for clubs that use the buildings and rental fees for residents who book rooms for special occasions. We all know that older folks tend to be resistant to change, especially if there is any hint it might hit them in the pocketbooks.

I attended the gathering as a representative of King City T.O.P.S. club and two members came along to support me. We sat through a little more than an hour of explanations, questions, objections, etc. As I understand the information presented, a point system is proposed to make fees more equitable for the huge variety of users. The prediction is that users with the smallest footprints may pay less than at present and those who require the most services may pay considerably more. Sounds like a plan to me.

Unfortunately, on my way out of the building, I spotted a painting of a covered bridge that beckoned to my addiction. Now I have to call the artist and see if it’s for sale and if it’s in my budget.
