Natural DisastersI don’t know whether horrific natural disasters are escalating or we are just getting more information about them in this “Information Age.” This morning, AOL has 150 ghastly pictures of the earthquake in China. China is a long way from here, but I’ve been to Beijing. I saw the faces of the people walking their dogs near the hotel where we stayed. Desperation is the word that came to mind. No one looked happy or carefree. No one I saw needed any additional trouble. Maybe the people in the area devastated by the earthquake were not as troubled as those in Beijing; but those who survived have more grief than anyone needs.
This earthquake follows a cyclone and the eruption of a volcano, all terrible disasters in different parts of the world, in a short period of time. Are climate changes we are causing responsible for any or all of these events? I’m not sure anyone knows the answer, but it is cause for speculation.
