Nein Nein Nein to Republican Reverse Robin Hoods

We need to say a loud “NO” to Republican fat cats and their “simple” taxation plans to employ reverse Robin Hood tactics and steal from the poor to pay the rich. How dumb do they think we are?

If I weren’t so old, I’d be marching with the Wall Street protestors. One of my friends, a few years younger, took cookies to the group here in Portland.  A much younger friend has been cooking for them. I hope the protestors settle for the notoriety they’ve received and don’t shoot themselves in the feet by creating too many problems for local small businesses and law enforcement.

But their cause is just. I don’t need to enumerate all the problems that have triggered the revolt of the masses. The ones that are closest to my heart are the struggles of the elderly, especially little old ladies who have to choose between paying rent and buying medicine. I’m not in that category—yet. But I have no assurance that I might not be, if I live too long.

The American Dream is failing youngsters who get out of school and find no jobs waiting. Even more frightening is the plight of the middle aged, who are edged out of long time jobs and unable to find other employment. “Do you want fries with that?” is no longer the mantra of teenagers only. Many elderly are forced to take jobs in fast food places to make ends meet.

Please go to the ballot box or get your ballot in the mail on election days. We need to make ourselves heard where it counts.
