Off We Go to the Wild Blue Seashore

For as long as I can remember the ocean has been therapeutic for me. I probably would have moved to the coast long ago, if it weren’t for my arthritis. But, we live close and Floyd’s family jointly owns a cabin near Newport where we can go on occasion. Today will be such an occasion.

Yesterday afternoon I packed clothes, sheets and towels to take along. Today I’ll shop for some of the groceries we’ll need and we’ll get the rest when we get over there.

A couple of women friends will be going with us. They are crafts vendors and will be showing their products at a sale on Friday and Saturday.

I am looking forward to several days of vegging out with good books and good company. I?m recovering from an infection for which the cure was worse than the disease. The medication upset my stomach even though I followed the directions carefully. As a result, my sleep was interrupted many times for several nights. I’m sleeping better now, but I don’t bounce back as quickly as I once did.

A poetry reading scheduled for Saturday night in Newport is an attraction I’m anticipating. The poet is a local man I met ten or fifteen years ago at a Clark College poetry festival in Vancouver. I really like his work and look forward to hearing what he’s done recently.

We plan to be home sometime Sunday, or Monday maybe, if the spirit moves or the weather’s good and we don’t want to deal with Sunday afternoon traffic.
