Once Again the Autumn LeavesThe row of trees outside our living room window turns to flame as we watch again this year. I could live without the power lines between us—underground would be nice, but I can mentally block them and the outdoor lights out and just enjoy the vivid colors. As I drive around our little town and on into Portland, there are many more varieties of trees to behold. On the Kaiser campus in North Portland, where I was today, rows of yellow trees line up along the sidewalks. The fall winds and rain showers and the nip in the air are invigorating. And, at my age, a little invigoration before winter starts can’t hurt. The autumn chill inspired us to get the heater fixed on Floyd’s car today. Recent sunny afternoons have been warm enough to sit on our balcony and look at the pots of pansies. I hope they are the winter variety that will last awhile; I didn’t ask when I bought them, I just assumed if they’re selling them now, they must be hardy. |
