Perhaps I’ve Lived Too Long

A few days ago I read a movie review of “Kick Ass.” This morning’s paper informs me that it’s the number one attraction this week. As we older folks are fond of saying, “What’s this world coming to?” Or at least, I wonder, what’s this country coming to and how does the rest of the world interpret this sort of information.

Yesterday I was thinking of a number of other examples of my having been around too long, but today is my birthday and it’s been a good one, so I’m feeling more upbeat.

My celebration really began on Sunday when my son came over and went to lunch with me and stayed on for a nice visit. This morning, after a long day yesterday with a medical problem of Floyd’s, I woke up and forgot it was my birthday. Then I opened Facebook and found a really sweet birthday greeting from my niece in Albuquerque that was followed by several other email greetings.

Some of them reflect a Big Brother implication that’s pretty scary. I received greetings from two cruise lines, a number of websites that are familiar to me and a few dot coms I’ve never heard of that somehow knew my birth date.

But I also had cards from all my sisters and phone calls from my kids. It was a great day.
