Pool RulesEvery swimming pool has a set of rules, several of which are often ignored. I have my own set of rules for my pool time. First of all, I never stop moving the rest of my body when my tongue is wagging, or when it’s hanging out, for that matter. Usually I exercise for fifty minutes in the pool, then spend about five to ten minutes doing some mild exercise in the hot tub. If I feel lazy, I just enjoy the hot water and don’t move around much. I get foot massages from the jets. Yesterday, I got into an interesting conversation and lost track of the time. When I looked at the clock I had been in the pool for more than an hour. My muscles and my feet complained last night. A grandkid’s swim party was scheduled for Noon to two o’clock Saturday, so we weekend morning swimmers, who aren’t necessarily crazy about other people’s grandchildren (especially in large numbers), got out of there by Noon. We also decided to skip our usual Sunday morning swim, since the pool will probably not be cleaned until Monday morning. I have a day off to let my sore muscles rest and recover. If I feel ambitious, I may buy some flowers and plant more pots for the deck and the front porch. At least that will use different muscles. Our next-door neighbors, who I suspect are older than we, spread several bags of topsoil on flowerbeds across from us yesterday. They love yard work and keep the beds outside our building looking lovely most of the time. My thumbs are not as green as theirs, but I try to help out with flowers here and there. |
