Science Gives, Science Takes AwayThis morning I read that continuous stress damages the brain, possibly permanently. This concerns me since I lived through two stressful marriages during twenty years of my life and a number of very stressful jobs over the years. Then I read that searching the internet is good for the aging brain. As a writer, and a curious person, I spend a good deal of time perusing the internet. Some research is being done and has not yet indicated that a lot of internet activity might prevent dementia, but that is not being ruled out. So I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. The last few days we have had sunshine and blue skies with some clouds, but cold air, chilled yesterday by East winds. This morning the sun came through bedroom windows, so I took advantage of that and stretched out to toast my body. I dozed off reading a mystery. I hope you can get Vitamin D through glass. According to information on, where else, the internet, most people in the Pacific Northwest are deficient in Vitamin D, because of our weather. I do take Calcium with Vitamin D as extra protection. Every year it seems to take me longer to get into the Christmas spirit. I actually bought a few Christmas cards yesterday and pulled up my label list to check for address changes that I know about. We haven’t pulled the box of Christmas decorations out of the attic yet. Soon, I guess. If we have a tree it will probably be very small and possibly even pre-decorated. I’m getting lazier. I’m not hung up on having a fresh tree anymore. It takes too many months to get rid of all the dropped needles that hide here and there. I did put a red bow on the pot of ivy by the front door and set up the winter centerpiece on the dining room table, with its fake greenery, red berries and candles. It’s a start. |
