Smoke Pollution

According to the news broadcasts, the haze in our skies today is due to smoke from fires in California and Central Oregon. Health officials recommend that elderly people stay indoors. I have to admit I’m an elderly person. I’m content to stay indoors as much as possible, but I will go to the swimming pool and the grocery store, if necessary.

It does make me think about the fact that we are relying on bringing in cool air during the nights by opening windows, to keep our living quarters comfortable during the day. Ever since I moved in here two years ago, I’ve resisted installing any form of air conditioning. So I’m not sure how much staying indoors will help us.

We can hope the air quality improves by the coming weekend holiday for the usual outdoor activities. Probably our Fourth of July Potluck will be indoors, especially if there is a smoke problem.

Mother Nature must really be on the rampage to hit us with all these horrible weather problems. Let’s hope she can be appeased, and soon.
