Take a Bow

Congratulations to you who are reading this. Take a bow, and I shall take one also. We are Time Magazine’s person(s) of the year. All users of and contributors to the world wide web were named by the magazine for this year. A novel idea!

Thanks to my computer consultants, son and son-in-law, I can now sit with my notebook on my lap in front of the fire on a cold night. I went out shopping for a couple of hours today and nearly froze. I need to get an outdoor thermometer, so I know how to dress to go outside.

When the weather is clear, we can see Mt. Hood in all its glory. The greedy mountain has taken the life of yet another young man obsessed with climbing and possibly two others who haven’t been located yet. It has been an ordeal for the families, and has kept us glued to news reports and press conferences. The Sheriff of Hood River County, the rural area where I lived for nearly a year a couple of years ago, has become a television celebrity. I’m sure he’d have preferred to achieve that notoriety in a much more pleasant way.

Yesterday afternoon we enjoyed a matinee performance of Oregon Symphony’’s Yuletide program. My daughter-in-law was in the cast but, much to her and our dismay, was not able to sing because of laryngitis. She is a trouper and put on a good show, anyway. We really enjoyed the orchestra, the singing, acting and dancing. We stopped for a Chinese dinner on the way home at a favorite restaurant of Floyd’. The waitress we had has been there for forty years, I heard her tell someone. Floyd and his late wife went there for many of those years.

I am so grateful to be sitting in front of a warm fire, in a warm apartment, enjoying sparkling Christmas tree lights. There are still many people in this area without power after our windstorm a few nights ago. I haven’t heard yet whether my sister in Seattle has her power back on yet. She has a woodstove for heat and running cold water and has gone to another sister’s house for at least one hot shower. I’m not sure whether the other sister has power or is using a generator still. They ‘t live very far apart. I’m hoping to hear from a niece soon.
