The Big 80At 6:20 a.m. today I became a year older. My 80th birthday finds me a bit more wrinkled, partly due to weight loss this last year. I’m happy to be lighter; I’ll put up with the new creases. I think my hair is grayer and I don’t mind that either. I’ve always liked gray hair. Silver white would be even better, but I may have to hang around another 20 years to get there. I had a fairly easy day, just a few chores and a meeting in the afternoon. I’m about to give up on getting the tile grout in my shower clean. I’ve tried three products on it with very little success. The good thing about having a big party this weekend is that my spring-cleaning will be mostly done—at least all the part that shows. Closets and drawers can come later—much later. The great weather today was perfect for transplanting a few pansies from their cramped little pots into bigger ones where they can spread their roots and decorate our deck. It was fun to hear from so many relatives and friends, mostly by email, a few by phone. Tomorrow my writers’ group meets and I have a few verses ready for their critique. I’m in the process of choosing poems to go along with my memoir stories, so I want to spiff them up a little. |
