These Turbulent TimesA quote I picked up from another blog that seems appropriate to our times: “A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: This prompted me to look up J. Krishnamurti. The name sounded vaguely familiar to me, but I really didn’t know anything about him. It seems he was an Indian philosopher whose teachings had worldwide popularity among large groups of followers. As nearly as I can determine, from brief study of the information on line, he advocated for peace and for humans to change their inner nature. I’m sure the latter is the only way peace could ever prevail. I’m also doubtful it will ever happen. But most people don’t seem to get that war and conflict don’t work. Certainly many of the people in power don’t. I’ve recently been to another historical site, Pearl Harbor, where the war between the United States and Japan started. It’s always an emotional experience to visit such places, and I’ve been to a lot of them. Years ago I remember a friend saying to me, “You’ll do anything to keep the peace.” She thought it was an insult. I thought it was a compliment. While I wouldn’t do anything illegal to keep peace, she was pretty much right. I remember that when I was young, I noticed many older people expressed their belief that the “world was going to hell in a handbasket.” Now I’m an older person, and find it difficult not to subscribe to that belief. We do live in a very troubled world and I would have little hope for the future if it weren’t for the intelligent, energetic, educated and well meaning young people I encounter. They are the future. May they survive and prosper. |
