We Are CoolWe are expecting record-breaking temperatures today and tomorrow—in the mid-nineties—not as bad as those we had earlier. We have already had more days over 90 and more over 100 this year, than our average. Last week we had a couple of days when I was tempted to turn on heat, but I put on a sweater or a jacket instead. Anyway, when you’re older, the normal aches and pains are bad enough without being too hot or too cold. Our window unit is installed and cooling the entire apartment. It has an energy-saver setting so it doesn’t run constantly, but keeps the temperature fairly constant where we set it. My sinuses seem to be clearing up, so maybe I can get something done this week. I’m going to help with copy-editing on a software package. It’s a good way to keep my old brain alert, since most of the time I have no idea what I’m reading. Even so, I can spot spelling or grammar errors. I also want to continue working on getting rid of surplus stuff and editing stacks of my own writing. I signed up for a Portland Community College writing class at our local senior center this term, starting next month. I’ve taken the class before, but quit when our writing critique group formed. Now that the group has fizzled out, the class should give me the motivation to keep at the writing. Maybe I’ll find others there who might be interested in a critique group. Now a nap is calling to me |
