Weighty Matters

It’s possible there is nothing more boring than blow-by-blow descriptions of weight loss programs—diets, exercise, etc. (Yawn).

Nevertheless, that’s what’s taking up a lot of my time these days. In addition to weekly meeting of the local TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) group, I’m in a study that will have weekly group meetings. The study is being sponsored by my HMO and is to test two types of weight-loss maintenance methods. So, I will be weighing in twice a week, in different groups. Talk about pressure.

I have been motivated by the TOPS incentives and yesterday I won a toaster for having lost weight continuously over six weeks. It has taken me five months to lose nine pounds, but for the last month and a half, my small losses have been consistent. I’m still twenty-one pounds from my goal, but I’m optimistic that I can do it. Then the really hard part starts—keeping it off. Hopefully, the results of the study will help with that.

Body maintenance seems to take more and more time as the years go by—  doctor’s appointments, dentists, chiropractors, foot specialists, etc. ad nauseam. Fortunately, as a retiree, I’m in charge of my own time.
