Weird Day

The day started out rather well, with a few chores then a great swim and workout at the Sherwood YMCA pool. I picked up a Subway sandwich on the way home and, after lunch, I took my morning pills. Fortunately, I was late doing so. I had inadvertently purchased regular Niacin instead of the flush free variety and didn’t realize my error until I had consumed 1000 milligrams. The Niacin I take is a replacement for statins that I took for years and I fear have left me with some health problems.

I did a small proof reading job for my son and, as I finished it, began to itch and burn all over. I didn’t immediately recognize the cause of my agony and dialed the advice nurse at Kaiser. While I was on hold, it dawned on me what I’d done.

I immediately went to Walgreen’s and picked up flush free Niacin, but I couldn’t remove what was already in my system. The symptoms abated and, after a nap and dinner, I replaced the pills in my weekly boxes with the flush free variety. Somehow, that triggered another attack and I’m still itching. I’d hate to think that just touching the offensive tablets caused a reaction by osmosis. Even worse, is the thought that I’ll continue to have these symptoms periodically until the drug works its way out of my body.

All of these activities consumed my energy for the day.

I did manage to clean the crumb tray on the toaster. Using whole grain bread with seeds really makes a mess there. The entire kitchen is crumby now. Fortunately, tomorrow is vacuuming day. At least, if it wasn’t before, it is now.
