Wonderings

Living in a retirement community, where most everyone has lived at least half their lifetime already, provides interesting conversations and experiences. When a silver-haired eighty-something gal declares, “All men should be castrated,” you have to wonder about her life experiences.

My writing class gives me a peek into the lives of a variety of senior citizens. Some have had lives so different I can hardly relate to their stories. Others I find more in common with. Often I hear about incidents that remind me of events in my life to write about that may have been forgotten for years.

I’m sure some of the swimming pool conversations would create a stir if overheard. But what happens in the pool stays in the pool. We four women who swim on weekend mornings share our opinions about religion, politics, current events, etc. We rarely have huge differences. And, of course, we are convinced we could run the country much better than the current crop of politicians.

There are times when I really miss the friends I had in Vancouver. I definitely miss the better driving conditions over there in less traffic, but there are a lot of advantages to living over here.
