Greetings from MauiTo my delight, I discovered among the many amenities in our condo apartment, a high-speed modem hookup (for a fee, of course), so I signed up for the day today and will decide later whether to go one day at a time or take a whole week. The week option might not be practical when we will be sightseeing some of the time. Today, Saturday, seemed like a good one, especially with a baseball game on TV to keep us here. Yesterday we went to Haleakala National Park to see the volcano’s huge crater. The road is in good condition, except for a very short section under construction, but winds around many hairpin turns and climbs to 10,000 feet or higher. We went to the Visitors’ Center at the 9,000-foot level. I’m almost afraid to mention how well I’m feeling, for fear I will jinx myself. We are both feeling well and resting well and enjoying lazy days. Listening to the surf outside our unit is very soothing. There are many activities out on Maalaea Bay to watch from our perch above the tops of the palms on the sixth floor at Island Sands. Surfers, boats, fishermen, scuba divers, etc. entertain most of the day and into the night. I’ve discovered that mint tea is quite good iced, as well as hot, so that’s my alternate drink when water gets too boring. Having given up carbonated drinks, coffee, and, alas, alcoholic beverages, my choices are pretty limited. The pool is small, but solar heated and I can adapt my swim/exercise routine to its limitations. I think I’ll head down there now and while away the time until the ball game is over. It’s probably actually over right now, judging by the score.
