Warm Weather at Last

We were shocked to have an afternoon high of 87 degrees today. It was a bit muggy, but not uncomfortably hot. Our outdoor pools are still not open and the predicted lows for the nights this coming week are all in the 50’s. Tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 78. I have suspected for several years that our seasons are sliding, so that our summer starts later and lasts longer than in the past—but maybe it’s just a cycle—we’ll see.

All these rapid changes in the weather seem to sap my energy and so it was a lazy day today. I did minimal household chores; we had lunch with an old friend of mine at the senior center and read our books in the afternoon. Short naps interrupted the reading.

A gathering of my sisters to celebrate the youngest’s 50th wedding anniversary will be combined with a cousin’s picnic on Vashon Island in Puget Sound late next month. I’m making plans to work it in along with cataract surgery on the last day of the month. So I guess I have a good excuse to rest up. I do feel guilty about not working harder on my writing, however. Having been vaccinated with the work ethic as a child is a mixed blessing.
