Beating the Heat

We managed to survive a couple days of unusual heat for this area that culminated in a violent electrical storm Sunday evening. Today’s high was at least ten or fifteen degrees less than Saturday’s scorcher.

Swimming helped me cool off each day and we ate out a couple of times to stay out of the kitchen.

Yesterday afternoon I was entertained by a band concert in the Town Hall next door and Floyd took in golf tournament finals on television. I also learned yesterday that our library was not air conditioned on Sunday, so if we wanted to escape there, it ‘s hotter than our apartment. I stopped to pick up some books and the volunteer who was working on the shelves was as surprised as I that the air conditioning was off.

Today, my sadness for a friend who lost a son in an automobile accident over the weekend, was tempered by receiving emails from three different nieces. One is vacationing in The Netherlands and sends a travelogue type report every few days. My one-day visit to a tiny bit of Holland was so interesting that I’m really enjoying sharing her experiences. She is learning much more about daily life there while visiting her son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and the family of the daughter-in-law.

I continue to procrastinate about getting back to work on my memoirs. Maybe tomorrow.
