Blustery Easter

The wind and rain this Easter remind me of the Easter in Seattle years ago when my stylish new hat was snowed on. That was before I figured out that Easter Lilies were aggravating my hay fever and quit going to church on Easter. Later, I quit going to church entirely. I won’t elaborate on that controversial subject.

I also quit going into stores before Easter because of the lilies. This year I didn’t notice many lilies in the stores. Actually, I didn’t notice the lack of them until I thought about it just now. I did see a few when I went to a nursery near here a week or so ago and picked up some primroses and pansies.

Yesterday I watched my neighbors working hard in the yard areas around their apartments. Usually, the couple next door plants flowers in front of our place also. This year that area is empty so far. If they don’t come through, I have some wildflower seeds I’ll scatter out there. I’m not into much gardening any more. My crooked arthritic fingers hurt when I dig in the dirt. I’ll probably have to spread some topsoil first. The soil in the beds around here doesn’t even grow weeds well.

One of my reasons for moving into an apartment was to get away from yard work and, so far, I’ve succeeded fairly well. The few pots on the deck and by the front door are enough for me to take care of. I can stay off my knees most of the time and work from a chair or a step.

We’ll be going to Floyd’s daughter’s house shortly for an Easter brunch. It’s always fun to get together with family.
