Happy Father’s Day

We had a good day. I swam in the morning. Then we went to the home of one of Floyd’s daughters for brunch with all of his children who live in this area and their families. We had a really good meal and a nice visit. He came home with a big container of watermelon and a box of sugar-free chocolates. When we got back, each of his out-of-town sons called.

A lot of fathers in this country probably also had a very good day today, but it’s likely that many did not. Fathers have a lot of responsibility and not all of them are able to fulfill it with the conditions that prevail now. That has to weigh heavily on the ones who feel that responsibility.

Having been a single parent at two different times in my life, I know what carrying that weight is like, especially if you can’t earn enough to support yourself and your offspring. I was very fortunate to have extended family to lean on. Few of us are that lucky.

Anyway, I hope all the fathers I know had a good day.
